67/365 – Cowgirl

67/365 - Cowgirl

So I get home today and low and behold Sandy has bought a cowgirl hat… I think she looks damn cute in it, but theres also a bit of back story to the whole thing. So I’ve been bugging her to let me get a cowboy hat for some time now. The response always is; “No way, that’s too Edmonton” or something similar :) I’m starting to believe that she’s becoming a true blue Albertan now too. If she gets a pickup truck I’ll drop dead in my tracks.

65/365 – The Magic Hours

65/365 - The Magic Hours

One of the best parts about Edmonton Winters is that almost all of the day light hours are ‘Magic Hours’, in that you have nice long shadowing, soft lighting from the very angled sun and of course perpetual sun rise / sun set weather. Right now the Sun only gets about 30° above the horizon. This week we’re also having yet another ‘warm’ streak of weather around 0°C which combined with the very low humidity here, makes for a very pleasant photo walk. Compared to earlier in January when I attempted to photograph the BrightNights festival when it was -35° and I felt like my hands were about to freeze off.
Anyhoo – Tomorrow will be 2 weeks without smoking – yay me and Sandy! We’re both off the various types of Nicotine replacements, I used the patch for 7 days and Sandy used the Puffer (or ‘nicotine tampon’ as we liked to call it). But after the initial break in Vancouver to not only get us away from our habitual tenancies but also provide a relaxing environment, it is much easier. I still have the pangs of wanting a smoke, hell right now I could really go for one. But this time round it really feels like I don’t actually want one and that it’s just the addiction or the habits talking. In fact I find most of all it’s the associated actions that I’m craving the most. For example, it used to be that as soon as I walked out of the door from work I would light my smoke. So when ever I leave work I have this sudden urge for something. All in all, I have to say that I am damn proud of Sandy and myself! My only fear is that I’m going to get very fat ;)

64/365 – Aged Film

64/365 - Aged Film

So I had already posted this image before, but the version I had posted was the Digital Version that London Drugs had given me. I decided to give my scanner a shot at seeing how it handled scanning the negatives from the film rolls themselves. Well, not surprisingly (being that it’s an all in 1 printer…) it failed horribly. That being said, I was able to do a lot of work in photoshop and lightroom to get some of the image back. I really actually like this image now. It has that aged photo look to it… Check the original version sized version – it’s just wild!

63/365 – Kate

63/365 - Kate

Our good friends Jocelyn and Myriam just had a beautiful little baby named Kate on Saturday the 24th. We got to go see her for the first time yesterday and boy oh boy is she just darling! I always thought new-newborns are supposed to be boring and they only get super cute after a few months. Boy was I wrong. Kate is bright eyed and just darling. Not to mention hungry ;) Congratulations to Joce and Mymy again she’s absolutely beautiful!

60/365 – A Bridge Too Far

60/365 - A Bridge Too Far

My parents have lived near the Capilano Suspension Bridge for years, yet I’ve never actually been across until Monday. What a wild experience. It’s almost as high as the Statue of Liberty it’s VERY long and quite bouncy. Thankfully it’s also got a chain-link fence down the entire length to stop idiots like me from flying out. On the other side of the bridge there is also an Ewok style system of bridges and platforms that provide an amazing view of the valley and other visitors. Also going at the tail end of winter was a great idea. Very few tourists and the cold kept the ones that were there mostly quiet and low energy. When we initially went in we all commented on how bloody expensive it was ($25.00 each) yet after two and a half hours of hanging around looking at the sights I think we all realized that we got a good value out of it. Finally we had to leave to get back to pack and hop on the plane back to Edmonton. I must say thanks again to my Mom and Dad for hosting us rowdy bunch and lending us the Fluff Mobile for the week. And a big thanks to Alex and Ben for putting up with Sandy and I while we nic-fitted all weekend :)
