38/365 – Escaped

38/365 - Escaped

So I sold most of my old gear a couple days ago to my friend Alex to fund the purchase of a 24-70mm f2.8L – It’s a beautiful lens, sharp as a tack, very fast focus, just lacks the IS system that my previous 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 had. But the extra stop wide open and 2 stops at the end really make this lens amazing. Needless to say I’ve been playing a lot with it, and I think the 70-200mm got a little jelous as I caught him trying to escape the camera bag! Thank goodness for my faithful 50mm blowing the whistle on him.

Strobist Info:
Key Light: 430ex II through umbrella above and to camera right.
Fill : 580ex II through umbrella above and camera left.
Fired using ETTL and an ST-E2.

Hey All,

As you may know I am a (rather new) member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, well the other day I posted a message to the local chapter’s asking about what the above image was.  It turns out that is a phenomenon called ‘Light Pillars’ – In any case, it spured one of the local senior members to write a report on it the effect and published that as well as the picture to the January bulletin that is distributed around the world.

The bulletin can be read here : http://www.gtez.com/temp/RASC_January_Bulletin.pdf My image is on the second page :)
