37/365 – A Very Cold Night

37/365 - A Very Cold Night

So I got the brilliant idea from my friend Jim to go and see the Edmonton Bright Nights light festival. So got all bundled up, packed the camera gear and Sandy into the car and drove across town to check it out. Let me say firstly that it was beautiful. Secondly let me say, it was bloody cold. Before wind chill it was -25° Celsius outside. So we got about 5 minutes into the photowalk through the park and my hands had started to hurt from the cold (Yes they were in gloves!). So I fired off the last few snaps before my fingers felt like they were going to freeze off and got back into the car and went home. :)

Christmas Vacation 2008

Christmas Montage

Christmas 2008 In Vancouver Pictures

Well, Sandy and I are back from a wonderful trip to Vancouver.  It took me a while to go through, fix and upload all the pictures from the trip.  Overall is was a great time and definately a fantastic opportunity to take pictures and annoy my family :)

Some highlights from the trip included playing with my new 70-200mm f2.8 Lens, which turned out to be very good for low light pictures.  Not having to flash my family over and over definitely won me a few brownie points.   Also, we made a couple of photo trips, the first into the forest near my parents place which was like walking into a winter wonderland.  The snow is absolutely amazing to see, and even more so because it was an almost record snow fall for Vancouver this year.  I thought I was escaping the cold by going back to the west coast, I was wrong.  The second big photo journey was to the Vancouver Aquarium, this is where I got to play with all my new gear to its fullest.   First of all, the subjects are something you rarely get to see, and second of all it’s very dark in there.  So with the fast lens attached and flash in tow we proceeded to take some great pictures.

This combined with spending time with my wonderful family really did make this Christmas a special one.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season.
